FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

TREASURY  and AABR

Memorandum of Understanding

March 7, 2002 -- Washington, D.C. – The Office of Small Business Development, U.S. Department of Treasury and the Asian American Business Roundtable (AABR) entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) today. The purpose of the MOU is to foster the development of small minority- and women-owned businesses. Through collaborative effort, this MOU seeks to improve the ability of AABR firms to compete successfully for Treasury contracts and subcontracts.

The objectives of the MOU are to increase the ability of AABR members to compete for Treasury procurements in various industries as well as to promote outreach activities consistent with the guidance from the Small Business Act that are mutually beneficial to AABR and the Treasury OSBD.

Treasury OSBD agrees to build an environment to minority- and women-owned businesses;  notify AABR of small business procurement outreach activities;  distribute Treasury OSDB targeted outreach information;  use Treasury OSBD web site ( www.treas.gov/sba) to provide information on other small business programs;  participate in trade organization activities;  and support the principles of BusinessLINC (learning, information, networking and collaboration).

AABR agrees to assist Treasury OSBD by identifying small minority- and women-owned businesses interested in doing business with Treasury;  review OSBD outreach information to assist in the development and identification of potential sources;  distribute information to vendors on upcoming small business procurement;  meet periodically with OSBD to maintain open communication and beneficial dialog;  and support the principles of LINC.

The MOU will be for a period of three (3) years, and may be extended by written agreement of the parties. It may be awarded at any time by a written agreement between the parties. Either may terminate this MOU upon thirty (30) days advance written notice.
